St. Joseph High School Pernem was started as a primary school in the year 1978 due to the Joint efforts and initiatives taken by the Sisters of The Handmaids of Christ belonging to Nazareth Home -Pernem and the Parish Priest of St. Joseph Church-Pernem .It was the first English medium primary school in Pernem taluka functioning from private Premises at bazaar peth offered by Rajendra Deshprabhu.
In the Year 1993 St. Joseph Primary School was upgraded to Middle School with the opening of Std V. With the construction of new building, St. Joseph school was shifted to its new premises at Surban Wado in the year 1994.In the Year 2001 St. Joseph School was further upgraded to Secondary school with the opening of Std VIII.

St. Joseph High School Pernem is run by the Diocesan Society of Education at Panjim and managed locally by the Parish priest of St Joseph Church Pernem. It is a religious based minority institution registered under the societies registration order dated 29th August – 1962 in the office of Sub-registrar Panjim, under registration No.107 and under the registration no. 468. Its Index No is PER 05.29.
From 1978 to 1995 St. Joseph High School Pernem was managed by the Diocesan Parish Priests of St. Joseph Church Pernem-belonging to Archdiocese of Goa. However in 1996 the St. Joseph Church of Pernem was handed over to Pallotine society. Since then the Manager of St. Joseph high School has been the Pallotine Parish Priest and the school has been managed by Cofre da Igreja de Pernem of St. Joseph Church Pernem.
St. Joseph high School Pernem is a English medium co-educational school and has classes from K.G. to Std X . It is one of the best in Pernem and boasts of high quality education and infrastructure which includes well developed play ground, well equipped library, computer Lab, Science Lab and spacious hall for co-curricular activities and cultural programmes and canteen facility.
St. Joseph high School has various Committees for smooth functioning of the School and for the welfare of the students.
